JOYCE KATHERINE MCCOMBE-FLEMMING (nee LAWRENCE) April 1, 1933 - July 5, 2010 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Joyce McCombe-Flemming. Cherishing her memory is husband George Flemming; sons Garth (Jean), Robyn (Janet) and Barton (Lynda) of Victoria BC and daughter Pamela of Cleveland, Ohio; grand-children James, Ian, Jessica (Will Darracott), Jennifer, Christopher, Graeme and Lauren, as well as sisters Lorraine (Don) Swanson, Gayle (Harve) Turner, brothers Bruce (Maureen) Lawrence of Burlington, ON, Greg (Karen) Lawrence of Oakville, ON; along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Kay and Ernie Lawrence, her first husband Larry McCombe, brother Murray Lawrence and nephews Barrett Lawrence and Jeffrey Turner. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Mom was born in Brandon, MB and spent her early childhood years there. The family moved to Winnipeg where she attended Gordon Bell School. She had a vivacious, outgoing spirit and was Freshie Queen and Vice-president at Gordon Bell. When we were little we lived in Regina, SK and remember her modeling at the CKCK Television station. Mom never stopped being active and was involved with numerous groups. She belonged to the sorority Beta Phi, and was president of the Women's Canadian Club, the Royal Scottish Dance Society, on the board of the Manitoba Highland Dancers Association, Ladies President of the Lord Selkirk Boys Pipe Band, member of the Bunch of Grapes performing numerous years at Folklorama's Mug Pub British Pavilion, sang with the Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir, and the St. Andrew's River Heights United Church Choir. She sat on the board of the University of Winnipeg's Adult education and never lost the passion for learning. She owned and operated Glengarry Scottish Imports for many years. Mom loved music and had encyclopedic knowledge of classical music. We grew up with the house filled with music. Music and dance first brought mom and George together. She loved Scottish bagpipes and Highland dance; as a result there are five pipers and two dancers in the family! Family get-togethers were wonderful times filled with music, dance and food. Mom loved life and took joy in everything, living up to her name Joyce-her parents Joy . Her enthusiasm lifted up everyone who met her. The family would like to acknowledge the care she received from Doctors Ted Brownwell, Brian Penner, Woo and Emble at HSC over the years, and the care she received from the staff on the fifth floor of the Grace Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6, or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 13, 2010. at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrews River Heights United Church, 255 Oak Street at Kingsway. Mom, we will miss you and love you forever.
