FREDA JEAN HOPPER (nee WATSON) It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Freda Hopper, in Calgary, AB (formerly of Winnipeg, MB) on May 20, 2014. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Harold R. Hopper, in May, 2005. She is survived by her daughters, Jean (Bob) Johnson of Mississauga, ON, Barbara Joyce (Ken) Barrie, Judy A. Hopper all of Calgary, AB and Kathleen (Paul) Tingskou of Winnipeg, MB. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Freda was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 16, 1921. She attended Success Business School and throughout her life worked at the Nutty Club, Salvation Army and Heritage Lodge Personal Care Home. She met her husband and soul mate Harold during the Second World War in Ottawa and together they had a fantastic, rewarding life. Freda was always active with volunteerism and committee work. In the 1960's/'70's, she was President of the Engineer's Wives Association, and President of the Home and School Association. Freda enjoyed the family membership with the Winnipeg Amateur Movie Makers Club and was an inaugural long-time volunteer with the Pavilion of Scotland. She was extremely proud of her Scottish heritage and of the Highland Dancers, Pipers and Drummers in the family. She and her husband, Harold, enjoyed travel and took great joy in seeing the world, especially when they could share the experience with their family. Family was her main passion; her large and loving clan - children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, and life-long friends. She was the matriarch of the ties that bind. She was well known for her kind spirit, her wise words, her laughter, her amazing strength and her generosity to help others. She was a true lady and touched the lives of so many. We are truly blessed. A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd. A viewing will be held on Friday, May 23 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to: The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, Suite 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6 or The Cerebral Palsy Support Foundation of Canada, 105 Consumers Drive, Whitby, Ontario, L1N 1C4. 885-9715
