DONALD ALEXANDER DAVIDSON 1933 - 2003 Peacefully after a four year battle against cancer, Don passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2003 at Riverview Health Centre with his family by his side. Don was born on March 25, 1933 in the Weston area of Winnipeg where he attended Cecil Rhodes School for one year. The family moved to St. Vital in 1940 and he grew up on Kingston Crescent, where he made many lifelong friends. After attending Windsor School he went to St. Johns Ravenscourt for the balance of his education. Always interested in sports, Don belonged to the Winnipeg Canoe Club for many years and particularly enjoyed paddling - both pleasure and competitive. He served on the Board of Governors for several years. At the age of 15 he started curling as a Junior at the Granite Curling Club and then curled for many years at St. Vital Curling Club and also for a time at the Grain Exchange Curling Club. Don married Janet (Thomas) in 1954 and they chose St. Vital the community in which to live, raising their family and participating in community activities over the years. Don followed his father in working in mens wear, first at Dan Davidsons Mens Wear and for a time at Eatons, Harry Rosens, Winnipeg Instant Tailors and his own business - Don Davidson Clothier - where he made many friends and loyal customers. For several years he was a member of the Kiwanis Club of South Winnipeg, of which he was a Past President. Don was also a former member and Past Master of Fidelity Lodge, No. 146 AFAM. He was a member of Regents Park United Church (now St. Marys Road United Church). Don is survived by his wife Janet; daughter Barbara (Ken) Rodie; son Tom; and his pals - grandsons, Christoper and Scott Rodie; and brother Dennis of Victoria, BC. He was predeceased by his parents, Dan and Jean Davidson. A funeral service was held on Thursday, October 16 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Marys Road United Church, 613 St. Marys Rd. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Bob Choptiany, Dr. Ralph Wong, and the wonderful staff at cancer care, St. Boniface Unit and the palliative home care workers.
